Personal information

Son of William and Winifred Maud Whyte, of Erith, Kent. He survived the sinking of City of Cairo, reaching the coast of Brazil after 51 days at sea in a lifeboat. James was awarded the MBE and flown to the USA for repatriation, but was lost as passenger aboard City of Pretoria when she was sunk with all hands.
