Personal information
of Mandurah, Western Australia. Leslie A. Wilkes had survived the sinking of HMAS Canberra in August 1942. Leslie was asleep in his hammock slung between a ventilator and the bulwark abaft the bridge of Helen Moller when she was torpedoed. He found himself pinned to the deck by a pile of timber and a cargo hatch beam across his legs, but managed to free himself with a severly injured leg and then boarded the lifeboat that was located by Empire Confidence on 8 Jun, 1944.Do you have additional information on this person?
