Daughter of William Robert and Pike English Saunders; sister of Richard Saunders, of Bedford, VA; wife of Francisco Xavier de Souza, of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Willie de Souza (nee Saunders) and her daughter June Anne were on passage from Rio de Janeiro to New York aboard Cayrú to visit her family, both survived the sinking.
