Personal information
Son of Harry and Alice Carande, of Haverhill, MA. After William Gaston was sunk he was in command of one of the lifeboats, which was approached by the surfaced U-boat and its commander asked if they needed anything. When he said no, the commander saluted before the U-boat left and submerged again.
