Son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Deas; stepson of Helena Deas, of Holmpton, Yorkshire. He was repatriated aboard Robert E. Lee from Barbados on 23 June 1942, arriving at New Orleans on 30 June, after the sinking of City of Melbourne.
