George Ould was asleep when Delfina was torpedoed. It took him about five minutes to break out of his cabin and get on deck just in time to see the lifeboat pulling away half empty and not returning when called. He jumped into the water when the ship sank, rescued himself on a raft and was later that day rescued and taken to San Juan.
