Personal information
Alexander Joseph Walsh lived on Guernsey with his wife and children until the outbreak of the war when they moved to Belfast to live. He survived the sinking of Portelet and continued to serve on merchant ships in North Atlantic convoys. On the occasion of the Celebration of His Majesty's Birthday, he was awarded the MBE and attended an Investiture at Buckingham Palace to receive the medal from King George VI on 12 Dec, 1944.
