Personal information
Son of Edward and Alice Mary Hines; husband of Aileen Dorothy Hines, of Southampton. Edward Hines served in the Royal Navy from 16 April 1924 to 16 November 1945. He joined HMS Transylvania on 4 October 1939 and after surviving her sinking in August 1940 was assigned to the destroyer HMS Ramsey from 9 January to 30 March 1941. Afterwards he served aboard the battleship HMS Ramillies from 28 August 1941 to 5 April 1943, which was severly damaged by one torpedo from a Japanese midget submarine in the harbor of Diego Suarez, Madagascar on 30 May 1942.
