Later in life Rolf Neslund married Nettie Ruth Myers on 24 April 1961. Working as pilot in the Puget Sound area he was involved in the collision of the freighter Antonio Chavez with the West Seattle Bridge on 11 June 1978 and forced into retirement because of the accident. He transferred his pension money to his wife, fearing he would lose it in a lawsuit. On 8 August 1980 Nettie Ruth shot and killed Rolf Neslund in an argument because she had spend all his money and disposed of his body with the help of her brother. However, the police eventually charged her for the murder and she died in prison of natural causes in 1993.
