Personal information
Having got off the Director, as it was in the Indian Ocean, he was worried it was a Japanese submarine, so broke the light on his lifejacket. He then spent the night worrying about sharks (though he may have got onto an upturned lifeboat. He was picked up in the morning by one of the two(?) lifeboats. In the mean-time [probably learned afterwards by him] the U-Boat had surfaced, and spoken to at least one of the lifeboats, asking whether there was anything he could do to which one comedian replied "give them a tow". The U-boat replied on the lines that the RAF would find them in the morning (they didn't). He also sort of apologized for sinking them, but said in his position they would have done the same to him.
