Personal information
Husband of Margaret Barklem (nee Gaffney, married 23 Apr, 1929); father of four living children: Marjorie, Nathaniel, Eileen and Patricia. Barklem survived the sinking of the Kioto, but was hospitalized in Trinidad for several months. He lost 2 fingers on his left hand (index and middle) and had shrapnel in his back following the explosions. He was known for mending watches and clocks which he continued to do even into old age. Nathaniel died at the age of 73 and is buried in Anfield Cemetery, Liverpool.
