Personal information

Ralph Gargett Jordinson joined the Royal Navy on 5 February 1940 and became Asdic operator after training from 19 May 1941 to 11 July 1941 at HMS Nimrod (Asdic training establishment in Cambeltown, Argyll) and from 12 July 1941 to 4 August 1941 at HMS Osprey (anti-submarine training establishment in Dunoon). On 5 August 1941 he joined HMS Punjabi and survived when the destroyer was rammed and sunk by the battleship HMS King George V in bad visibility on 1 May 1942. His next ship was HMS Exe, serving aboard from 14 July 1942 to 26 July 1943. On 1 March 1944 he also survived the sinking of HMS Gould, which he had joined on 5 September 1943. Ralph then served aboard HMS Scarborough from 12 July to 23 August 1944 and aboard HMS Cheerful from 28 September 1944 to 23 October 1945.
