Personal information
André Lacroix later told his family that he survived the sinking of Donald Stewart because the sailors had just for fun built a dingy out of planks, tarp and tar, which saved 16 sailors. The master was on another raft and he had to cut the rope off as it was being pulled into the fire. They were rescued by HMCS Shawinigan, named after a town not far from André's birthplace.
