Personal information
Clay Knox Dyer was injured in the sinking of USS Leedstown, spent about 13 hours in the water before being rescued and was eventually transferred to Bethesda Naval Hospital. After a period of convalescence he joined USS Iowa (BB 61), serving aboard the battleship until the war ended.
