Personal information
Geoffrey Charles Vaughan signed on the Tweed in Liverpool, presumably his first ship after joining the Merchant Navy. After surviving the sinking of the ship he volunteered to bring the British prize Criton from Freetown to the UK, but the ship was intercepted and sunk by Vichy French warships on 21 June 1941. He was interned in a camp in French West Africa for the next 18 months, including his 21st birthday.
