Personal information
Son of Llewellyn and Johanna Mary Francis, of Cardiff. His brother Gerard Francis died in the sinking of Shillong in April 1943 and his uncle David Francis was lost while serving as chief engineer officer aboard Shrewsbury, which was sunk by the German heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper in convoy SLS-64 on 12 February 1941.
