Personal information
John Sanders had already served in the British Merchant Navy during First World War and lived in California, but returned to the UK in 1939 and became a gunner in the Merchant Navy. After the sinking of Estrellano he joined the Army Intelligence Corps and served in the Mediterranean theater until October 1945.
