Personal information
Derek Edwin Fitton was en route to South Africa aboard Anselm, rescued after the ship was torpedoed and landed at Freetown. He later went to Rhodesia to recuperate. 1943 he was promoted to Sergeant and ended the war as Flight Lieutenant, with a promotion to Squadron Leader. However Derek left the RAF before the promotion came through, to join the family engineering firm.
