Personal information
Son of Mr. and Mrs. James Haywood Whitfield, of Greenville, NC. He was injured when USS Donnell was torpedoed, transferred to USS Reeves on 6 May 1944 and taken to the USN hospital at Crevagh, Northern Ireland.
Horace Ray Whitfield was lost in the sinking of USS Drexler which was struck by a Kamikaze aircraft off Okinawa on 28 May 1945.Sources
