Personal information
Willem Jacobus Visser joined the Merchant Navy at the age of 15. He was at the wheel when Soekaboemi was torpedoed and survived the sinking. Willem never returned to the Netherlands, became a naturalized US citizen as William Visser in the late 1940's and served in the Korean War with the 7th Division.
