Personal information
Son of Henry and Annie Straker (nee Anderson); husband of Emmeline Louise Straker (nee Sparham), of North Shields. He survived the sinking of Saranac, but was taken prisoner after Athelfoam was sunk by the German battlecruiser Scharnhorst about 500 miles southeast of Cape Race on 15 March 1941 and spent the rest of the war in the POW camp Marlag und Milag Nord near Bremen, Germany.
