Personal information
Student pilot in the Netherlands Naval Aviation Service (Marineluchtvaartdienst - MLD), en route to the UK for further training as passenger aboard Corilla. He survived the torpedo attack on the tanker and later safely arrived in the UK, only to return to Canada for flight training in late 1942. Johannes Isaac Boom eventually became an observer/navigator/bomb aimer on B-25 Mitchell bombers in No. 320 (Netherlands) Squadron RAF.
