History Launched in September 1932 as steam trawler RT-70 for Sevgosrybtrest/NKRP. 1938 renamed RT-70 Kapitan Voronin. On 29 Jul 1941 requisitioned by the Soviet Navy and used as despatch vessel PS-70 in the Northern Fleet.
Notes on event

At 19.00 hours on 6 Aug 1941 the PS-70 was struck on port side aft by one G7e torpedo from U-652 while en route alone about seven miles northwest of Cape Teriberskij. A lookout had spotted the periscope of the U-boat in a distance of only 400 meters just before the torpedo explosion, too late to take evasive action. The vessel settled rapidly by the stern with a list to port and sank in less than one minute. The survivors were rescued by Soviet motorboats that were sent from the nearby coast.

This was the first U-boat success in the Northern theater.
