Notes on event

At 21.34 hours on 19 Dec 1941 the unescorted Varlaam Avanesov was hit by a torpedo from U-652 in the Aegean Sea and sank after about two hours 2,5 miles off Cape Babakale, Tenedes Island. The survivors abandoned ship in the lifeboats, reached the Turkish coast and were later repatriated.
