Notes on event

The Fanefjeld (Master Haakon Næss) was reported missing with a crew of 22, one passenger and the Icelandic pilot Sigurdur Oddson after leaving Bíldudalur for Isafjord on 8 April 1942. On 10 April, an unidentifiable body and a life buoy marked Fanef... were found by the Icelandic fishing vessel Eimskipas at Ørnundafjord. A search was carried out in the area but nothing more was found. It was assumed that she was sunk by an aircraft or mine.

U-252 reported the sinking of a steamer of 2000 grt off the northwest tip of Iceland at 10.04 hours on 9 April. This must have been the Fanefjeld.
