Christensen), Kristiania. 1926 sold to Britain and owned by Leeston Shipping Co Ltd (Chubb & Holley), London. 1933 sold to Finland and owned by J.W. Paulin, Viborg. In August 1941 seized by Britain at Kirkwall and taken over by Ministry of War Transport (MoWT). 
Notes on event

At 08.31 hours on 25 April 1942 the unescorted Modesta (Master James Robertson Murray) was hit in the #2 hold by one torpedo from U-108 and sank within 12 minutes about 110 miles northwest of Bermuda. The ship had been missed by a first torpedo at 05.17 hours. The master, 16 crew members and one gunner were lost. 19 crew members and four gunners were picked up by the Belgian Airman and landed at Bermuda.
