Notes on event

At 13.57 hours on 14 May 1942 the unescorted Stavros was hit amidships by one of two torpedoes from U-593. She was en route in Swiss charter and the U-boat noticed the neutrality markings only after the hit and immediately stopped the attack. The ship was later salved and repaired.
