Tatem Ltd), London. 1936 renamed Kingston Hill for Counties Ship Management Co Ltd, London. 1937 sold to Greece and renamed Stavros for Kassos Steam Navigation Co Ltd (Pnevmaticos, Rethymnis, Yannaghas), Syra. Post-war: 1953 sold to Costa Rica and renamed Atenas for Santiago Steamship Co (N.D. Rallias), Puerto Limon. 1960 sold to Panama and renamed Amu Darya for Cia de Nav. Victoria Neptuno, Panama. Notes on event | At 13.57 hours on 14 May 1942 the unescorted Stavros was hit amidships by one of two torpedoes from U-593. She was en route in Swiss charter and the U-boat noticed the neutrality markings only after the hit and immediately stopped the attack. The ship was later salved and repaired. |
