At 09.30 hours on 10 August 1942 USS Bold (AMc 67) was slightly damaged by the detonation of a mine laid the day before by U-98 off the entrance to St. Johns River near Jacksonville, Florida. However, the coastal minesweeper continued to sweep the minefield they had discovered together with USS Avenge (AMc 66) and USS YMS-64 until 14 August.
