Notes on event | At 15.46 hours on 19 September 1942 the unescorted Quebec City (Master William Caradoc Thomas) was hit by one torpedo from U-156 north-northwest of the Ascension Island. The U-boat sank the ship with seven rounds from the deck gun and 58 rounds from the 37mm AA gun. One crew member was lost. The master, 37 crew members and three gunners were picked up by HMS Decoy (H 75) (LtCdr G.I.M. Balfour, RN) and landed at Freetown. | ||
