Notes on event

At 08.07 hours on 2 Nov 1942, U-522 fired four torpedoes at convoy SC-107 about 500 miles northeast of St. Johns and observed hits on four ships. However, only Maritima and Mount Pelion were hit and sunk.

The master, 28 crew members and three gunners from the Maritima (Master Arthur George Phelps-Mead) were lost, because the ship sank within four minutes. 22 crew members and five gunners were picked up by HMCS Arvida (K 113) (T/Lt A.I. MacKay, RCNR) and landed at Londonderry.
