Notes on event | On 27 June 1944 the corvette HMS Pink (K 137) (Cdr G.V. Legassick, RD, RNR) was hit by a Gnat from an unknown U-boat while screening the Normandy landings in the English Channel. The corvette was towed to Portsmouth where she was declared a total loss and later scrapped at Llanelly in 1947.
Revisions | October 2015 by Rainer Kolbicz: The discovery of the wreck of U-988 showed that it could not have been responsible for the damage of HMS Pink. It is presently not known which U-boat carried out the attack.
