At 08.45 hours on 3 Sep 1944 the unescorted Livingston (Master Reuben Thomas Robinson) was torpedoed and sunk by U-541 northeast of Louisburg, Nova Scotia. 13 crew members and one gunner were lost. The master, 12 crew members and one gunner were picked up by HMCS Barrie (K 138) (T/Lt W.D. Stokvis, RCNVR) and landed at St. John’s.
