At 12.50 hours on 7 Sep 1939 the unescorted Pukkastan (Master John Strachan Thomson) was stopped by U-34 with two shots across her bow southwest of the Bishop Rock. After the crew abandoned ship, she was sunk by a coup de grĂ¢ce at 13.31 hours. The crew was rescued by the Bilderdijk.
