14 Oct 1944
The USCGC Eastwind (Capt. C.W. Thomas, USCG), along with the USCGC Southwind, captured the Nazi auxiliary Externsteine off of Greenland. Eleven days earlier, U.S. Coast Guard commandos had captured about a dozen German military personnel and documents after the Eastwind's aircraft had spotted the German ship.
