History

USS Duncan (Lt.Cdr. Edmund Battelle Taylor, USN) made a daring one ship attack and found herself between Japanese and American battle groups resulting in receiving more than 50 hits. When she sank 58 men and 5 officers were lost. 195 men were rescued from the shark infested waters by USS McCalla (Lt.Cdr. W.G. Cooper, USN).
