Decommissioned by the Brazilian Navy in 1972.
Scrapped in 1975.

USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) torpedoed and sank the Japanese troop transport Kaiko Maru (3548 GRT) east of Musashi Wan, Paramushiro, Kuril Islands in position 50°20'N, 155°26'E.

Sand Lance herself is damaged when she runs aground off Paramushiro. Also her attack periscope is damaged by drift ice.

3 Mar 1944
USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) torpedoed and sank the Japanese troop transport Akashisan Maru (4541 GRT) west of Uruppu, Japan in position 46°00'N, 149°10'E.

Later that same day Lt.Cdr. Garrison accidentally torpedoed and sank the Soviet cargo ship Belorussia (2900 GRT) in position 46°28'N, 149°18'E.

13 Mar 1944
USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) torpedoed and sank the Japanese light cruiser Tatsuta (3230 tons, offsite link) and the Japanese army cargo ship Kokuyo Maru (4667 GRT) about 150 nautical miles south-south-west of Yokosuka, Japan in position 32°52'N, 139°12'E.

23 Mar 1944
USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) ended her 1st war patrol at Pearl Harbor. In late April she departed from for her 2nd war patrol, in the Mariana Islands area.

3 May 1944
USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) torpedoed and sank the Japanese troop transport Kenan Maru (3129 GRT) about 15 nautical miles north-west of Saipan in position 15°20'N, 145°34'E.

11 May 1944
USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) torpedoed and sank the Japanese troop transport Mitakesan Maru (4441 GRT) off Tinian in position 14°57'N, 145°15'E.

14 May 1944
USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) torpedoed and sank the Japanese army cargo ship Koho Maru (4291 GRT) southwest of Apra harbour, Guam in position 13°43'N, 144°42'E.

While operating about 60 nautical miles west of Saipan USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) torpedoed and sank the Japanese troop transport Taikoku Maru (2633 GRT) in position 14°57'N, 144°47'E and the Japanese army cargo ship Fukko Maru (3834 GRT) in position 14°49'N, 142°23'E.

5 Jun 1944
USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) ended her 2nd war patrol at Fremantle, Australia.

3 Jul 1944
USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) departed from Fremantle for her 3rd war patrol. She was ordered to patrol in the Molucca and Celebes Seas.

14 Jul 1944
USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) torpedoed and sank the Japanese auxiliary gunboat Taiko Maru (2984 GRT) in the Banda Sea east of Salajar, in position 05°56'S, 121°34'E.

1 Aug 1944
USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) torpedoed and damaged the Japanese munitions ship Seia Maru (6659 GRT) south of Lombok, Netherlands East Indies.

7 Aug 1944
USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) is damaged by bombs from a Japanese aircraft off northern Celebes, Netherlands East Indies in position 01°18'N, 121°30'E. She is forced to abandon her patrol.

19 Aug 1944
