History | On 2 Oct, 1939 the passenger ship Pretoria Castle of the Alfred Holt & Co, Liverpool was requisitioned by the Admiralty and converted to the armed merchant cruiser HMS Pretoria Castle (F 61) In August 1942 sold to the Admiralty and converted to an escort carrier. Commissioned as escort carrier on 29 July 1943. On 26 January 1946 she was resold to her owner and reconverted to a passenger ship and renamed Warwick Castle. Scrapped at Barcelona, Spain starting on 26 July 1962. |
