Hi Rainer,

Do you have any photos or diagrams of the valves in question (Vent and Tide valves) for both the Saddle tanks and the Bow or Stern tanks? David Westwood's book "Anatomy of a ship: The Type VII U-Boat" just points to several location on the saddle tanks and designates them as vents.

The Book "Deutsche U-Boote Geheim 1935-1945" by Richard Lakowski has drawings to the tide Valves on page 67, 69, and 70 in the Main Ballast Tank.
