Hi, Fellows!
I have not seen the drawings, but I do remember from the Daphne submarine that there were two cutouts that interrupted the line of the keel under the conning-tower. These cutouts held two large, heavy ballast weights, which could, in an emergency, be released from inside the Control Center, immediately lightening the boat by a good many tons. Is it possible that such a device was fitted to some of the U-boats? If the weights are not installed, it may account for this aspect of the drawings.
