Hi Visje,
As Jon B. already indicated, there was no rule to the use of tubes. They were used according to opportunities available. It is factual though, that Cdrs in the last war years preferred to preload an accoustic torp in a stern tube for anticipated situations, where they would have to get out of Dodge fast with an escort hard on their tail.
