Hi Jeff,
That is an odd description I never heard. The end of the guard served as pintle to the hydroplane stock - much like a horizontal version of a double hung rudder, where the stock stands in its pintle to relieve bending stresses at it\'s upper bearing (common in spade rudders). So the function is more like a tension preventer than a tensioner.
How is the OTW hull coming along? I bet it\'s the reason we do not see you here more often. :-)) Rgds, RB
