Hi Clark,
I have not heard it being referred to specifically as the German pound, but it is 1/2 kilogram or 500 grams vs. American pound abt 453 grams.
As I said mot quite sure abt Gov approval, but I believe it happened under the \"Iron Chancellor\" Bismarck. Rgds, RB
