This has been discussed before on this forum, so I`ve copied it and posted it here again :)

During the night, red lamps are turned on to accustum crew and officers on watch, to the dark. At night, when they get ready to the surface, they put on their goggles. The danger is everywhere when a sub comes to water level because she can`t hear anything. (noise of propellers when she rush to the surface.)
To day, it\'s the same. Look at \"Red october\". The same goggles in the same sequences.(During the night, of course.)
