Compare this to the performance of the best american sub sonar, 7000 yards and you see how superior the german sonar was.<" That the 48 sensor GHG Balkon could detect a large convoy at 100 miles is under optimal conditions is known. It could also detect individual ships out to around 30 miles. However, it is hard to believe the US sonar in 1944/45 could only detect a ship at 7,000 yards. Are you sure you are not giving us a spec from an older model?
Also, what could the American TDC do that the German one could not? Especially the improved model used on the XXI?
