Nils:

The Battle of rhe Atlantic was won.........by the allies.

No matter how many battery cells were installed in the existing U-boat fleet in 1943
on, they were all doomed. The advances made in ASW by the allies, namely
radar, sonar, jeep carrier's planes dropping the MK24 acoustic torpedo/mine, long-range 4-engine bombers dropping depth bombs, eradication of the milche cows, shortage of U-boat officers, minelaying, use of the "Hedgehog, faster sinking depth charges, HFDF and lastly the acquisition of the Enigma machines and the development of the "bombe" for codebreaking, sent a clear message to the Kriegsmarine that it was useless to continue their Battle of the Atlantic. The U-boat commanders had their "Happy Time"........but it was over, forever.

I may get some flak over this statement, but that's the way this 78-year-old submariner's mind reads the evidence.

Respectfully,

ROBERT M.
