Hi John,
I thought you would chime in here, and your point 4 expressed the welding proceedure better than I could. That is why I did not answer your earlier post, since I have little of substance to contribute on this subject.
Do not know but doubt though, that the assembly yards for the type 21 had xray or ultrasound equipment handy in '43-45.
Your explanation of reasons for lack of stability needs a little work. Vessel stability was extensively covered here or in the general forum recently. No point for me rehashing it now.
