Dear Rainer,

Thanks for the note,the problem with all this is that the vast majority of us have neither the practical experience or had the opportunity to examine a preserved
Uboat very closely.The closest i have got is work on the RAN Ovens class diesel boats .Here in West Australia there is an Ovens class preserved in the WA Maratime museum.The nearest Uboat locally is off the coast of Singapore,where two IX i think were scuttled by the British after WW2.

I will look up the time scale for the introduction of ultrasound and x ray testing and see if the germans used the technique.Visual inspection or MK I eyeball is still extesively used in many major jobs.More on this later.
