When the TNT was poured in the warhead of the MK 13 torpedo, the warhead casing was tilted at about a 30-degree angle. This technique resulted in the bottom after portion of the warhead having more TNT, acting as ballast, making the torpedo right itself after entering the water. That single gyroscope spins at 15,000 rpm, and its spinning is sustained at 125 psi air pressure during its run.
The first PT boats used MK 8 torpedoes, launched from torpedo tubes.
