The klaxon was born in the early auto industry, because it was the most effective and readily available "attention-getter" at the time. The trucking industry, for one
installed them on their trucks, because of their loud sound that was not confused by other warning devices like bells and sirens. Even the bicycle and motorcycle
manufacturers chose a hand operated klaxon.

Can you come up with a better idea? Using klaxons on submarines for so long,

The U.S. nuclear-powered submarines have changed the tone, but the message is still clear as an "attention-getter."
