Thanks, Eric. The British subs didn't have enough operational successes to justify keeping them on these stations, but they were a valuable source of information. I find the timing of their orders ironic: the urgent requirements in the Med eventually outweighed their value as 'sentries' in the Channel at the same time that efforts to gather information on coastal traffic and routines was near frantic, in anticipation of raids and dummy landings along the occupied coast.
